Plastic and reconstructive surgery

You have perhaps asked yourself if the person to whom you are going to entrust yourself possesses the necessary qualifications: this question appears even more legitimate to me all the more so as you may not know that in France, the title of Medical Doctor theoretically allows all doctors to practise any operation, and that “plastic surgery” is not a speciality recognized by the Medical Council. It is thus useful to check the competence of the doctor who will operate on you.

For « aesthetic » operations to be carried out under the best conditions, it is first of all necessary to have training in general surgery, and then to have specialised in the surgery of the skin and its contours, i.e. plastic surgery. During the years of hospital training, we learn how to manipulate skin, to make scraps/shreds, transplants, to find the face’s skeleton.

You must understand that plastic surgery operations with an aesthetic aim use the same techniques and obey the same principles as the operations which repair damage and that often there is no clear borderline between “repair” and “aesthetics”. Only a complete training in plastic surgery allows doctors to be prepared to face all kinds of situations.

This training is completed by the granting of competence in plastic surgery awarded by the Council of the Order of Doctors, and by obtaining, after a strict examination, the diploma awarded by the French College of Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgery which controls and coordinates hospital and private teaching in the whole of France. This competence and the diploma which results from it permit us to be admitted in the French Company of Plastic and Aesthetic Surgery and to become an active member of this company.

These explanations were a little long undoubtedly, but I think that they were useful to make things clear for you and, I hope, reassure you, by pointing out that this operation is just like any other, with its quota of uncertainties.

My interventions are done in Paris, at Clinique Sainte Genevieve in the 14th arrondissement and in Private practice, 4 Rue du Maréchal Harispe in the 7th arrondissement.
